OKLAHOMA CITY – The cold weather may have put a damper on your Halloween this year.

If you have a lot of extra Halloween candy, those treats don’t have to do damage to your waistline.

Instead, organizations are asking for your extra candy to send to troops overseas.

Operation Gratitude is asking residents across the country to send wrapped candy no later than Nov. 15.

Organizers ask that you do the following:

  • Separate chocolate and non-chocolate candy.
  • Include donations of individually packaged toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste.
  • Fill out a donation form and include the number of pounds of candy and number of toothbrushes you are shipping.

Don’t use boxes any larger than 24 “x 24″ x 20″ and don’t send Pixy Stix.

You may also write letters or cards and include them in the package.

Care packages can be sent to:

Operation Gratitude/ California Army National Guard

ATTN: Halloween Candy/ Angel Cuevas

17330 Victory Blvd.

Van Nuys, CA 91406

You can also participate in the Candy Buy Back program.

Dentists will trade children prizes and cash for their treats, which will then be sent to Operation Gratitude.
